PATERNAL LINEAGE TEST RESULTS

DNA Home Back

See an example of the downloadable and printable results document

Your Paternal Lineage test results include your Y-chromosome test profile, or haplotype, and a prediction of your Paternal Ancient Ancestral Haplogroup. In addition to an anthropological description of your haplogroup, you will see the migration path your father's ancient ancestors would have traveled as they settled different parts of the world.

MATERNAL LINEAGE TEST RESULTS

Your Maternal Lineage test results will display your mitochondrial DNA profile and indicate where your profile differs from the reference. A map and description of your maternal ancient ancestry, or haplogroup, provides you with insights on how your mother's lineage migrated tens of thousands of years ago.

PATERNAL MATCHES

Your Y-chromosome test results will be matched against the DNA profiles in the DNA Ancestry database. And each time a new test is added, the service will automatically compare it against your profile to determine whether it is a close match. If a near match is found, you will be notified by e-mail.

The Match View displays participants, and their approximate locations, that reasonably match your paternal DNA profile. Simply select the participants that are of interest and you can see precisely how where they match or mis-match with your Y-chromosome results.

PATERNAL LINEAGE TEST COMPARISON

The comparison view show where the other participants match or mis-match with your Y-chromosome results. The grey cells indicate where your results differ, while the color help identify and group those participants who match you at the same level. If you are interested in a closely matching result, clicking of the participant's name will navigate you to the Finding a Common Ancestor screen.

COMMON ANCESTORS

When comparing your results with another participant's, a statistical analysis is performed to calculate a range of generations you might have shared a common ancestor. This Most Recent Common Ancestor analysis provides a great starting point for comparing your family trees. The range of generations increases with the greater number of mis-matches between your Y-chromosome profiles. In addition to the range, a calculation is also performed to statistically identify the most likely generation in which you shared a common ancestor.

MATERNAL LINEAGE TEST COMPARISON

Your Maternal Lineage test results are compared against each profile in the DNA Ancestry database and against every new test that is added. Participants who match your maternal results will share the same haplogroup and could be related at a very distant level. Those participants whose results differ from yours are definitively not maternally related to you.
